Robert Trent Jones Sr., 1957 · 18 holes · Par 72 · 7,464 yards · Rating/Slope 74.8 / 143 · 2,700 m
Club El Rincón de Cajicá is the most prestigious course in Colombia and the only Robert Trent Jones Sr. design in the country. Built in 1957 by the legendary American architect, Rincón has hosted the most significant tournaments in Colombian golf history. In 1980 the course hosted the World Amateur Team Championship (Eisenhower Trophy) — still the only time that event has come to South America. Since 2023 it has been the regular host of the PGA Tour Américas Colombia stop, putting it on the world professional circuit. Rincón won the 2023 World Golf Award for Best Course in Colombia.

The Design
RTJ Sr.’s signature elements are all present at Rincón: wide fairways that demand decisive shot-shaping rather than perfect positioning, severe bunkering (particularly greenside), and water features that require long forced carries on several holes. The 7,464-yard championship length and 74.8/143 rating/slope reflect the course’s reputation — it is playable for skilled amateurs but unforgiving of poorly thought-out shots.
How It Plays
At ~2,700 metres, the altitude effect is at its strongest in Colombian golf. Drives gain 20–30 yards of carry, and mid-irons gain 15–20 yards. The thin air also reduces spin, meaning approach shots release further on landing and shots that would normally stop on tour-condition greens may release through the back. Wind funnels through the Cajicá valley, particularly in the afternoon. Morning rounds are typically calmer.
Greens run firm and quick — typical Sabana stimpmeter 10–11. Fairways use Kikuyu base grass; greens are Bent.
Location & Access
Rincón is in Cajicá, ~45 minutes north of central Bogotá via the Autopista Norte. From El Dorado International Airport (BOG), allow 75 minutes. The course is private; visiting play requires reciprocal arrangements, IAGTO-affiliated tour operator booking, or tournament event entry.
Practical Notes
Caddie is mandatory. The course pairs naturally with San Andrés (Funza, 30 minutes), Guaymaral (Autopista Norte, 25 minutes), and a day trip to Zipaquirá’s Catedral de Sal (15 minutes from Cajicá) or Villa de Leyva (2 hours).
