Country Club de Bogotá — John Van Kleek, 1950

John Van Kleek, 1950 · 36 holes (Fundadores + Pacos y Fabios) · 7,237 yards championship · 2,600 m

Country Club de Bogotá is the country’s most historically significant golf institution and the most exclusive private club on the Sabana. The club was founded in 1917 as a social club, and golf was added in 1950 when John Van Kleek designed the original course — known today as Fundadores. The second course, Pacos y Fabios, brings the total to 36 holes — one of only three 36-hole facilities in the Bogotá area. The club regularly hosts the Colombian Open and remains the standard against which other Sabana courses are measured.

The Fundadores Course

The Van Kleek layout from 1950 reflects the classic mid-century American parkland style: tree-lined fairways, strategically placed bunkering, and green complexes that reward precise approach play over raw distance. At 7,237 yards from the championship tees, it plays as a proper test for low-handicap golfers, but the hallmark of the layout is fairness — trouble is visible from the tee, recovery options exist, and good shots are rewarded.

The Pacos y Fabios Course

The second course offers a different test, with its own character distinct from Fundadores. Together, the two layouts allow members and tournament organizers to rotate courses for major events and member play, and they make Country Club one of the few venues in Colombia where a member can play 36 holes in a day without leaving the property.
